Chelsea ‘keeper has the perfect excuse for his craptastic gaffe

When it comes to steaming tripe, the footballing press and internet rumour-mongers are the usual culprits. However, this time it is the Czech Republic keeper Peter Cech, who let a dodgy porker leave his cakehole.
Cech – in a coffee-splutteringly terrible excuse – claimed that there was “water on the ball” for his super-gaffe in which he dropped a ball at Nihat’s grateful feet, allowing Turkey back into a game they were losing 2-0. Cech said:

“There was a lot of water on the ball and it slipped from my grasp.

“I know now I should have punched it. After the game, you always know everything. Everybody makes mistakes and I am a human being.” (Independent)

Is “water on the ball” the real reason that the Czech Republic lost to Turkey, or was it down to Cech’s slippery hands?
