Anyone think that Birmingham City can hold on to McFadden?

The Daily Telegraph reckons that Birmingham City are “set to lose James McFadden” and we’d have to concur.
Whilst Faddy didn’t consistently set the world alight at Goodison, his occasional sparks of genius soared way above Championship level, which is what the Scot will have to endure if he stays with Birmingham.

Birmingham look likely to lose their Scotland international James McFadden following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Scottish champions Celtic have already had their first bid turned away as Birmingham manager Alex McLeish desperately tries to hold on to the £4.75m signing from Everton.

McFadden’s return of four goals in 12 games was not enough to save Birmingham from the drop last season after his move from Goodison Park.

Now he has expressed his desire to play at the “highest level”. His agent, Willie McKay, said: “James is happy (manager) Alex McLeish gave him a chance to play first-team football, but it’s a short career”, adding that McFadden “told me that he wants to leave”. (Telegraph)

So McFadden has declared he want to leave, Birmingham are playing in the Championship, and Champions League Celtic – amongst others – are sniffing around. Has Alex McLeish really got any chance of keeping his star striker?
