Russian striker claims stellar Euro performance priced him out of the market: Can any Prem club afford him?

Well you don’t see a story like this all that often. After taking Euro 2008 by storm with pace and power not seen by a Russian striker in some time, Zenit ace Andrei Arshavin is claiming that his successful run for the Russian team has put his transfer fee at an astronomical number that no club can touch. Who knew playing well could have such a negative effect?!

Arshavin, who had been a target for Arsenal and Chelsea, now believes his sparkling performances in Euro 2008 have priced him out of the market.

The 27-year-old striker said: “As it turned out, maybe I did the wrong thing for myself as an individual by playing well at Euro 2008 since it has led to a rise in my market value.” (Daily Telegraph)

Did the wrong thing by playing well individually? Please, this has to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. If anything, Arshavin has made himself into one of the most sought-after strikers in the world by showcasing his skills at Euro 2008. If anyone is holding him down right now, it would be his current club who expects someone to break the bank for the Russian ace. Do anyone think that he’s really worth his £24m price tag?
