Roque Santa Cruz was an inspired purchase by Mark Hughes while he was at Blackburn last summer. Will the Welshman be doing exactly the same thing for Manchester City?
The striker has admitted that he’s not surprised by reports linking him with a trip to Eastlands, yet Setanta reports that the Paraguayan expects to stay at Ewood Park this season. The prolific forward has also been linked with Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United, although has never really given the idea that he’s looking to leave after just one season with Rovers.
Santa Cruz told La Nacion: “I am not surprised because Mark Hughes was my manager at Blackburn and it would represent good money for the club when you look at what they paid for me.”
“I think it [a move] is unlikely because my new manager Paul Ince has already said that he doesn’t want to sell me,” added Santa Cruz.
“I still haven’t spoken to him since I returned from Paraguay but when I have the opportunity I will speak with them.
“The league starts again on August 16, my birthday, and I hope by then it will all be sorted out.”
Will Paul Ince manage to stave off his former Man United team-mate and keep hold of his star striker? With David Bentley still hankering after a move and Brad Friedel off to Aston Villa, this is one player that Blackburn could definitely do with keeping hold of.
