As a former Gunner makes his way to Tottenham, a nice big cheque heads its way to the red half of North London!
David Bentley is set to make Arsenal a healthy figure of around £8.5 million when he completes his £17 million transfer to Tottenham in the next two days.
Bentley has frequently spoken about his treatment whilst he was with the Gunners – the team who nurtured his talent and gave him a chance in football – and has previously advised Theo Walcott to walk out of Arsenal if he wants to become a better player.
However, although it seems David ‘has it in’ for his previous employers, the club included a large sell-on fee when he was originally sold to Blackburn in 2006, which is believed to be as much as 50%. This means half of the money Spurs will pay for the 23 year old, will immediately be passed across North London.
After coming through the Arsenal Academy, Bentley was one of the star performers in the youth setup, but with so many experienced players at the club during David’s time here, he was frozen out. Loan spells at Norwich and eventually Blackburn saw him snapped up by the Ewood Park outfit, and now the England International will be returning to London, but this time as the enemy.
It will be interesting to hear his reception when Arsenal face Tottenham at the Emirates. (youngguns)
David Bentley’s move to Spurs may make him an even more hated figure at Arsenal, but it seems that Arsene Wenger will be laughing all the way to the bank! The England man has been pretty scathing in his various attacks on his former club, but the extra cash will come in handy for the Emirates outfit and may well help them launch one last big name raid before the transfer window closes. What do Gunners fans think the club should do with this windfall?
