Rafa has not given up on landing this Spanish winger, but only if his club gives up on its ridiculous valuation!
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is reviving his interest in Espanyol winger Albert Riera.
Sport says Benitez is turning to Riera after seeing Argentine Sebastien Leto have his work permit application rejected by UK authorities last Friday.
Liverpool are willing to pay £8 million for Riera, who has previous Premiership experience with Manchester City. (tribalfootball.com)
This 26-year-old left winger has been trying to orchestrate a move to Merseyside since Rafa first showed an interest in him, but his club had originally demanded a fee of around 19m for the Spanish international, which was a purely fantastical suggestion. Benitez came back a few times apparently with perfectly reasonable offers but was not successful. This report above suggests that the fee Liverpool are ready to offer is 8m, which is a far more accurate fee for a player of Riera’s ability.
The club needs a useful winger or two, and this former Mallorca and Bordeaux man clearly wants the deal to go through, so it’s over to Barcelona’s ‘other’ side to see if they decided to cash in on a player who has made it clear he has ambitions beyond the mid table La Liga outfit. Do Liverpool fans have any other winger suggestions that Benitez should consider bringing in?
