According to this source, a former Tottenham boss is keen on a couple of Benitez’s squad players!
Hamburg to test Liverpool over midfield duo
Hamburg coach Martin Jol has admitted that he is on the lookout for at least one more signing before the end of the transfer window and continues to scour the English Premiership for players that he believes will fit in to his team.
Reports in the UK press are that Jol is interested in making a bid for Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt, however sources close to the club have indicated that it is not Kuyt but either Jermaine Pennant or Yossi Benayoun that catches his eye,
The main reason that Jol will not make a bid for Kuyt is the unrealistic price attached to the player by Liverpool, a recurring theme in most transfer dealings with Liverpool these days.
However circumstances have changed dramatically at Anfield over the last few days and while Kuyt is no longer an option Pennant or Benayoun or both in fact can be made available if the price as usual is right. (footylatest.com)
Whilst it seems that Pennant is not likely to be a player Benitez loses any sleep over, it does appear that the Spaniard wants to keep Yossi, and the Israeli has made it clear he loves the club and wants to try and get a regular run in the team. Martin Jol clearly wants to use the cash from the sale of Rafael Van der Vaart to boost his Bundesliga outfit, and this pair could do be a good purchase. However, I am not sure this will amount to much as I can’t see Jermain opting for a move to Germany.
Do Liverpool fans feel that either player could force his way into the first team reckoning?
