Manchester City are suddenly rich again! They’re looking for ‘box-office signing’ with ex-Arsenal striker heading list

The soap opera that is Manchester City Football Club continues to provide plenty of entertainment for us all. What do you expect when the owner used to be Prime Minister of Thailand, recruits and sacks the former manager of England, hires the former manager of Wales and then has his assets frozen after failing to attend a court hearing. Oh, and fails to sign the former World Player of the Year.

The Guardian provide the news that the club have some cash again and they are not afraid of spending it. Oh no, Shinawatra seems to be attracting some investment and is confident (in only the way a megalomaniac can be) of getting his assets thawed by the Thai authorities. Now they want to make a signing that will make people sit up and take notice of this proud football club who are not a laughing stock, honestly.

Manchester City have drawn up a shortlist of some of the biggest stars in world football, headed by Thierry Henry, as they look for a “box-office signing” to fill the role they had hoped to create for Ronaldinho.

The club are determined to investigate whether Henry would be tempted to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window if he has a difficult first half of the season in La Liga. At the same time, feelers are being put out across the world to bring in the “superstar” that City’s executive chairman, Garry Cook, believes will take the club to another level.

Cook has not been put off by City’s long and ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of Ronaldinho, when the Brazil international led them to believe he was keen on moving to Eastlands before signing for Milan.

Somebody might want to mention to Cook that it’s no point having a superstar in your team if the other players aren’t up to much. Just ask Juninho about that one, or even City legend Kinkladze. Once again, the club appear to be going completely the wrong way about doing things, are you excited about the above City fans, or just depressed?
