According to this source, Wenger is closing in on a great defensive signing from Real Madrid!
Arsene Wenger works hard in his attempt to bring in new players before the transfer window closes. An experienced German defender is a close target
Sunday People reports that Real Madrid’s German defender Christoph Metzelder could join Arsenal on loan. Metzelder could be the ideal replacement for Senderos who joined AC Milan last week.
Metzelder has been certain in the German national team, but not always been a regular while at Real Madrid.
Metzelder (27) played seven seasons at Borussia Dortmund before joining Real Madrid in 2007. A chance to play in England would probably suit a player known for his hard tackles. (soccervoice.com)
Mezelder is a very solid centre-back who has bags of top-level experience, but is such a signing neccesary? With Gallas and Toure the established pairing at the back, would the German be happy to sit and wait for his turn at the heart of the defence? It would seem like an expensive option to sign the former Dortmund man as injury cover as, essentially, Silvestre was brought in for just that purpose. At least the former Man United player is adaptable and can play at full-back and defensive midfield, whereas Metzelder is pretty much a one-position man. Do Arsenal fans think Wenger should bring in the £11m-rated 27-year-old?
