West Ham bag Zola, and he looks to a Chelsea man for his number two

West Ham have wrapped up Gianfranco Zola as their manager, and the pint-sized Italian wants Big Phil Scolari’s assistant as his own.
The Scotsman reckons that although Zola will keep Kevin Keen and a lot of the West Ham backroom staff, he’s casting jealous glances towards Chelsea and wants to nab Steve Clarke. The Scotsman says:

Clarke, who won six Scotland caps as a player and is currently assistant to Luiz Felipe Scolari at Stamford Bridge, has been linked with a move to becoming Zola’s assistant manager – they know each other well from Zola’s time at Stamford Bridge.

Joorabchian [West Ham’s transfer consultant] admitted that Clarke is the preferred candidate for Zola. “They are looking for assistants,” he told Sky Sports News. “Gianfranco has a very close relationship with one particular person, Steve Clarke.

“They are very close and they feel his experience in the Premier League, working under very big coaches at Chelsea, has given him a lot of experience. He is more defensively-minded than Gianfranco so he brings good balance. I think that is what he is going for.” (The Scotsman)

So what do West Ham fans think of Steve Clarke, a well-respected coach who was around in the highly successful Mourinho era at Chelsea?
