Quotes from the Portsmouth boss seem to suggest that he is resigned to losing one of his prized assets. Juande Ramos is a big fan and is sure to be encouraged by the words from Harry Redknapp.
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is aware that a ‘big club’ can come in with an offer to capture midfield powerhouse Lassana Diarra, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
The France international, who formerly played for Chelsea and Arsenal, has impressed in his stint at Fratton Park so far, and Redknapp is hoping that the versatile player ‘stays for a while.’
“He’s unbelievable, he really is,” said Redknapp. “He’s a top, top, top player and yet so easy to deal with, a good little lad who just wants to get on with it. Please God, he stays here for a while but, you know, one day he could go on and play for anybody, any of the big clubs in the world.”
He added: “I think we signed him for four years and he’s tied up on contract here but you know what happens. If they want to go they usually go.” (Premiershiplatest.com)
The £14m rated midfielder Diarra has been in superb form since joining the south coast outfit in January and the former Arsenal and Chelsea man has been linked with a move away from Fratton Park pretty much since day one of his Pompey career. I am sure that many Portsmouth fans would have been surprised that the French international didn’t leave in the summer and they are probably grateful that he stood by the club who helped resurrect a career that had stuttered at Stamford Bridge and then the Emirates. But it does appear that a move to a ‘bigger’ club is on the cards.
Spurs have been linked with a move for 23-year-old Diarra for some time and many sources have suggested that the north London club will make a move in January. Do Tottenham fans think that the capture of Diarra would be one worth making?
