Three players previously linked with a move to the Emirates and known to have the admiration of Mr Wenger are apparently ready to quit troubled Newcastle United, so could the north London club make their move in the St James’ Park fire sale?
Steven Taylor is ready to join a mass exodus at Newcastle – even though he recently signed a new contract at St James’ Park.
The England Under-21 star is one of 11 players ready to quit the Magpies in January following the departure of Kevin Keegan.
Others include Michael Owen, Oba Martins, Nicky Butt, Damien Duff, Shay Given, Joey Barton, Alan Smith and Shola Ameobi. (Daily Mirror)
Given, Taylor and Martins were all at some stage linked with a move to the Emirates during the summer and would be available for a total of around £26m. I could see why Arsene would have considered the signings of excellent keeper Given and centre-back Taylor, but wasn’t so sure about the wisdom of a move for Martins. But this report from the Daily Mirror illustrates the problems at Newcastle and, until they are resolved one way or another, many players will be considering their futures at the club who have now lost three on the trot. Do Gunners fans think that any of these three could well be renewed targets of their French boss?
