Aston Villa join Stoke City and Blackburn in the chase for this troubled wide man.
Clubcall.com are reporting that Jermaine Pennant is a £6m transfer target for Premiership rivals Aston Villa.
The winger has been frustrated in his attempts to earn a regular spot in the Reds side since his arrival from Birmingham City in 2006.
Stoke City failed with a deadline day bid for the Englishman after he turned down a move to the Britannia Stadium and Blackburn Rovers were linked throughout the Summer.
Aston Villa could be set to test his resolve to stay at Anfield in the January transfer window. Pennant has only made one appearance so far this season – in the 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night. (The Corner at Anfield)
You can’t fault Pennant for trying to stake his claim at the club, but if a bid came in for the former Arsenal man, surely Rafa would take it without thinking twice. Jermaine did manage to get his first taste of Premier League action with his four minute run-out at Goodison Park, but he really does need to weigh up his options. At 25, he may not want to spend the rest of his Anfield contract on the bench so a move to ever-improving Aston Villa would be a good deal all round. Do Liverpool fans think that number 16 has a future at the club?
