Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are on the trail of Michael Owen.

The England international is out of contract at Newcastle United in the summer, and Juande Ramos is prepared to pay around £5million to take him to White Hart Lane in the New Year.

“You can’t blame players for looking elsewhere,” said United legend Alan Shearer recently, when the topic of Owen leaving St James Park was making the headlines. (fansfc.co.uk)

I think many will agree that a fully fit Michael Owen is well worth £5m, the danger of course in paying such a sum for a player who spends half (if not more) of the season out with some injury or other. However I think it is a risk that Tottenham should take, if the former Liverpool hero can prove himself to be fit and able then I think it would be a masterstroke to bring him to White Hart Lane. He always gives everything to the fight and at full fitness he is a consistent 20 goal a season man. Also he is still only 28 so by no means over the hill, because of the perilous nature of the north London clubs situation they would have to act in January to bring in a striker rather than wait so it would clearly make more sense to pay the relatively small fee in the transfer window rather than wait to pick him up for nothing by the end of the season. Do Spurs fans think that Owen would be a good signing to make or should they look for another striker and if so who?
