Liverpool boss set to rest SIX for Carling Cup match against Spurs: Is Rafa kissing the Mickey Mouse Cup goodbye?

Knee deep in a Premier League battle with Chelsea, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez appears ready to put a huge dent in Liverpool’s Carling Cup chances by resting some critical players.

Yep … those cricket sounds you hear are Liverpool supporters showing their disapproval at such a truly ridiculous move!

”Gerrard is one of them at this moment. Dirk Kuyt is another who has played almost every game. Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carragher and Robbie Keane are the same.

”You also have to consider that some of these players have played internationals this season too. I believe Keane has played 23 games already.

”We will use players who haven’t played every game. I have confidence in them because they are all internationals.

”It is always important to win trophies and this is an opportunity to do that. You must always be ready in every competition. (ESPNSoccernet)

Ok, so most Liverpool supporters knew this was coming. With the club facing a Premier League club in the fourth-round of the Carling Cup, Benitez is finally pulling back on the reigns a bit for one match while resting some key players that clearly need a rest. The good news for Rafa is that while he won’t have Keane, Carra, Gerrard and others for the match, he will get Torres back. Redknapp is probably wishing he didn’t have to face the Spanish sensation!

Are Liverpool supporters shocked to see Rafa rest so many players? Does anyone really care about the Carling Cup?
