The Manchester City manager is determined to increase his defensive options when the transfer window opens on Jan 1 and has made Toure and Chelsea full-back Wayne Bridge his top targets.
Bayern Munich star Podolski, who has been tracked by Hughes, is now back on City’s radar after telling Bayern manager Jurgen Klinsmann that he wants to quit the Bundesliga giants.
“I’ve made my decision and I would like to leave the club in the winter,” Podolski said. “I’ve told the club’s management I want to leave.”
Klinsmann has warned Podolski that he will not be allowed to leave in January, despite falling behind Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose in the Bayern pecking order. However, the German champions could be ready to cash in if City make a big-money offer for the 23-year-old.
Arsenal defender Toure is ahead of Podolski on Hughes’ wish-list, however, due to the defensive problems that have dogged City this season.

All of the players linked with a move to Eastlands in this report would be fantastic purchases, and would represent a very real increase in quality in relation to what already sits in Mark Hughes’ squad. Kolo Toure could be a bridge too far for the club, however, as he seems like an Arsenal man through and through.

A move for Podolski would be a brilliant one though and, given his desire to leave Munich due to lack of first team activity, could play right into the hands of Man City who would welcome the adaptable front man with open arms as well as a big fat pay cheque. Wayne Bridge’s projected move to City has apparently hit a snag, with Chelsea boss Scolari apparently miffed that Robinho chose the Blues of Manchester ahead of the Blues of London, but I think the Portuguese man seems a decent enough guy who wouldn’t stand in the way of a move for the former Southampton man, not least because he isn’t even a first choice at the club. Of this trio who would the fans most like to see at the club?
