Tottenham fans will be hoping that this source has got something horribly wrong!
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are hot favourites to land Emile Heskey.
The England international is out of contract at Wigan Athletic in the summer, and manager Steve Bruce appears resigned to losing the 30-year-old former Birmingham City man.
“I have the utmost regard for him and what he does for the rest of his life is up to him,” he told the News of the World. “If he does allow his contract to run out, he will have a number of suitors.”
Although Aston Villa and former club Liverpool are said to be keen on Heskey, it is believed Harry Redknapp’s White Hart Lane side are favourites to land him on a free transfer in the summer. (fansfc.com)
This is indeed a worrying bit of news. Regardless of his recent ‘decent’ form for England, Emile Heskey is still not exactly a quality purchase. It has been years since he was considered a quality player, and whilst I know his main job isn’t putting the ball in the back of the net, we are still talking about a forward with a strike record that would make John Jensen look like Dixie Dean!
Even though the 5m-rated striker will be available for nothing in the summer, I simply do not believe that Redknapp would consider bringing him in, and I am sure that most Tottenham fans would hope that this is all some horrible dream that they can wake up from. Are there any Spurs supporters who would welcome the former Liverpool man? It is important to realise also that even though he would arrive on a free, he would apparently demand a weekly wage in the £60-70k bracket and that is surely not a deal worth considering?
