Newcastle United are heading for a relegation battle and, with that in mind, they are looking for a cheap fix to their woes. That’s where a phone call to Mr Wenger comes in!
Newcastle’s interim manager Joe Kinnear hopes to sign midfielder Alexandre Song and defender Johan Djourou on loan from Arsenal in January but believes the Gunners’ progress in the Champions League and Carling Cup means Arsene Wenger will be reluctant to let the duo leave. (The Guardian)
Wenger could do with giving his young charges some much-needed experience, but Song is now firmly in his first team plans and therefore unlikely to be farmed out, whereas the big Swiss defender may well be aided by a loan move to St James’ Park. I have always been impressed by Djourou, and believe he could be a very solid customer.
Alexandre has already featured in 18 matches this season, and is clearly a player that the boss rates, although I am yet to be sold on his ability. Do Gunners fans feel that some of their kids need a little more top-tier experience before they are ready to represent the club at the highest level?
