This source suggests that Mr. Wenger is all ready to snare a young talent that he has been playing close attention to in recent months.
ARSENE WENGER wants to add another ‘Young Gun’ to his youthful Arsenal side – flying Dutchman Eljero Elia.
The 21-year-old, who can play as a winger or a striker, is in fine form for Steve McClaren’s FC Twente side.
Elia is so desperate for a move to the Premier League he has already turned down a move to top Spanish outfit Valencia because his dream is ‘to play in England’.
That has alerted a host of clubs including Manchester City, Everton, Blackburn and Hull. But Arsenal are at the front of the queue for the Dutch Under-21 ace who could cost £6million.
Gunners manager Wenger travelled north to watch Elia in UEFA Cup action at City earlier this month and he scored in a 3-2 defeat. (News of the World)
Having come against Steve McClaren’s Dutch side in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League Arsene has had a good chance to run the rule over the Dutch youngster and this move could be one that might actually bare fruit. The 21 year old seems more adept out wide than as front man and his performances have greatly aided the small clubs rise up the table this term. Given the host of clubs chasing the nippy attacker it could well be that a January move may be necessary to avoid missing out. However Gunners fans must question yet another move for a youngster with a paucity of experience. Do Arsenal fans want the boss to concentrate on bringing in more experienced heads rather than more kids?
