These sources suggest that an Anfield man could be set to leave the club unless he gets a better pay deal!
Daniel Agger is a target for AC Milan after his pay talks with Liverpool stalled.
The Denmark centre-half is adamant he wants to double his £35,000 wages. And with his current deal set to run out in less than 18 months, Liverpool will sell Agger in January rather than risk losing him in a cut-price transfer at the end of the season.
Negotiations are continuing, but the Anfield board feel they cannot sanction such a massive contract for a defender who may not even be first choice when Martin Skrtel returns from injury. Milan believe they can get Agger for £8million, which would represent a £3million profit for Liverpool on a player they signed from Brondby two years ago. (Daily Mirror)
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez wants to tie Agger, who has 18 months left on his contract, and Dirk Kuyt to long-term deals. But the club won’t be held to ransom.
Benitez has had his first informal contract talks with co-owner George Gillett.
Though described as convivial, the meeting was inconclusive. (Daily Mail)
This has been ongoing for some now, and Rafa has been at pains to repeat that Agger is going nowhere but will the Danish international get the salary these reports claim he is after? The solid centre back has always impressed me but would he be a little out of order if he was in fact asking for £70k, especially if reports are correct and the club do not have a huge wad of money lying around for such demands. I am sure either way that this situation will be thrashed out and any potential transfer will be averted as clearly he is a player who appears to want to stay at the club who has made him the star that he is today. Do Liverpool fans feel that Daniel is asking for too much?
