Wigan Athletic boss in hugely inaccurate valuation shocker!
STEVE BRUCE put a £10million price tag on Emile Heskey’s head last night and promised that it will take nothing less to prise the centre-forward away from Wigan in January.
Aston Villa are preparing a transfer window bid for Heskey and his old club Liverpool are also interested in taking him off Wigan’s hands as well as Tottenham
“I keep hearing two or three million quid, but he won’t be going for that. If it’s eight or 10 then I might have a decision to make because I could get a player in but, at two or three million I couldn’t buy a player from the Championship.
“I’ve said for years Emile is the best English centre-forward of his type and he showed it again at Arsenal on Saturday. People like Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen enjoy playing alongside him.
“It’s his prerogative what he wants to do, and he has made it obvious that he wants to keep his options open.” (Daily Express)
Steve Bruce is being wildly optimistic if he thinks he would get anything like that amount for the former Liverpool man and I say that for two prominent reasons. 1) Heskey is 30 and 2) he isn’t very good. I really doubt that Rafa would make such a move and even though John Carew is currently sidelined I don’t see Aston Villa making such a large bid for Emile. Spurs too don’t really need a big front man as they have just forked out a chunk of cash on Russian beanpole Roman Pavlyuchenko. Given that Wigan have apparently earmarked a move for Mido should they lose the England international I really don’t think that they need to ask for so much for Heskey, maybe they could just make a swap with Middlesbrough? Are there any Liverpool fans who think that Benitez would dream of making this move?
