This source suggests that whilst Man City are aiming to snare this French international, Rafa also very much likes the idea of signing him!
FRANCK RIBERY is the £20million top target for Manchester City boss Mark Hughes in next month’s transfer window.
City have been linked with a succession of high-profile players since the club was bought by the cash-rich Abu Dhabi United Group, but French star Ribery (right) tops Sparky’s hit list.
Ribery, 25, moved to Bayern Munich from Marseille 18 months ago for £17 million and is the current Footballer of the Year in Germany.
He can play on either flank or in a more central role and is also coveted by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
Ribery, also a former Footballer of the Year in France, says: “I’ve a slight preference for a free role behind the strikers, but I’m never unhappy on either flank.
“As long as I can play my natural game, to dribble and provoke, I am happy.”
He suffered ruptured ankle ligaments at Euro 2008, but made his comeback three months ago. (Daily Star)
Ribery is a tricky customer on the field of play, he moves like an electric eel and has immense speed with the ball at his feet and more often than not can outmuscle challenges that are flung at him. His first season at Bayern went superbly with the 25 year old helping the Bavarian outfit to the title and led him to be named the player of the year, however he may feel that in terms of hoping for European honours he may encounter the same problem as he did at Marseille, and that trying to secure the Champions League may not be so easy at the German side. He could also not doubt significantly improve salary with a move to the cash rich Premier League, especially if he were to move to Eastlands. He is a talented player and I can see why Rafa would want him, clearly the problem could come in terms of trying to get the finance to make such a move would prove tricky. Do Liverpool fans feel the club will have significant funds to invest in January?
