This source suggests that a move for this solid defender is likely to offset the potential departure of the clubs former captain
Arsene Wenger has always expressed his will that Gallas would stay with Arsenal, but the talk doesn’t go with the acts and Gallas could be leaving sooner than most expect.
Arsenal have given AC Milan the green light to open direct negotiations with the player an his agent. Milan are the most serious bidders for Gallas next January, but also Juventus are on the watch.
On the other hand, Arsenal are trying to is open channels with Roma regarding another French defender, Philippe Mexes.
However, it’s not just Gallas causing Wenger a headache. The French astute tactician has recently been alerted that it may take Ivoirian defender Emmanuael Eboue some time to recover from being booed by his own fans last weekend. (footylatest.com)
This isn’t the first time Arsene has been linked with a move for the 26 year old French international but this might be the most opportune time for Wenger to make a serious approach for the Roma man. Given Gallas’s probable departure now would be the time to invest in another centre back and the battling Mexes would fit perfectly at the Emirates but he won’t come cheap with a valuation in the region of 12m on former Auxerre man’s head. Do Gunners fans think that the defence needs strengthening in the transfer window or is the need for a defensive midfielder greater?
