This source suggests that the north-east giants are keen on this solid centre back.
Newcastle United are launching a bid for West Ham defender Matthew Upson.
The Sunday Sun says United have enquired about a possible deal with cash-strapped West Ham for England star Upson. (Tribalfootball.com)
Joe Kinnear looks likely to be in situ at St James’ Park longer than many had expected after a very solid start as Toon boss. Now he is looking to the future and is keen to resolve some defensive frailties, although the club has been far less colander like in recent matches conceding just two goals in their last four matches. Matthew Upson would be a very good acquisition but would he consider a move to a side ahead of his West Ham outfit only on goal difference or try to help Gianfranco Zola improve the club’s fortunes? The former Arsenal man is in the form of his life right now and even though the east London side needs cash they would surely exhaust all other options before selling the 29 year old. Do fans of either side think they have more to offer the England international than their relegation threatened rivals?
