This source outlines an interesting raid said to be on the cards at St James’ Park.
ARSENE WENGER will start his radical transfer-window surgery with a three-pronged raid on Newcastle.
The Arsenal boss has targeted Toon trio Shay Given, Steven Taylor and Charles N’Zogbia in an attempt to fix the Gunners’ flagging season.
The Republic of Ireland stopper would set Arsenal back around £8million — which would appeal to the Frenchman’s sense of value with his £60,000-a-week wages unlikely to threaten Arsenal’s pay structure.
Sources close to Given have made it clear they believe he will be sold by the end of the transfer window with Arsenal his preferred destination.
Under-fire Wenger is desperate for cover at centre-half and wants Taylor (above left) to help provide an English-style spine to the team.
Taylor, 22, has been out of favour at St James’ Park for much of the season but has forced his way back into the team recently and Wenger has long been an admirer.
The final part of the jigsaw is French midfielder N’Zogbia (above centre) who is out of contract at the end of the season and has made it perfectly clear he sees his career away from Tyneside. (News of the World)
Clearly Arsene Wenger feels he needs to splash the cash to keep his side in amongst the title chasers and perhaps more importantly to ensure his side clinches a top four spot ahead of the likes of much improved Aston Villa. With that in mind this source outlines an interesting trio of Newcastle United talents who could all be very useful additions to the Emirates squad. Shay Given is a great keeper, possibly the second best in the Premier League (behind in Cech) and even though Almunia has been pretty safe between the sticks the Irish international could be the kind of keeper to create a very healthy fight for the number one spot. Arsenal need some centre back signings, especially if as expected Gallas returns to France. Taylor is a very able youngster who could become a top notch player under Wenger’s guidance. The Greenwich born defender is still only 22 and has almost 150 appearances under his belt and could fit in well at the north London club. Charles N’Zogbia has the style, swagger and vision of a prospective Gunners man but is a very inconsistent performer and he too would be the kind of player I could see Arsene bringing on nicely. Which of these three do Arsenal fans think would be worth making a move for?
