This source suggests that Wenger is about to make a move for one of the in form players in the Premier League.
ARSENE WENGER has made Manchester City star Stephen Ireland his main transfer window target.
The Gunners boss has virtually accepted defeat in his bid to sign Everton’s Mikel Arteta and has turned his attention to in-form Ireland.
Wenger raised his interest in the City midfielder when Eastlands boss Mark Hughes made an inquiry for Arsenal’s Kolo Toure.
The Arsenal boss was given no encouragement that Ireland would be made available. But he could use Toure as bait in a player plus cash exchange bid to tempt City to sell. (News of the World)
Ireland has been in the form of this life this season and he has become a focal point of the team which despite his best efforts is still at the wrong end of the table and that could lead the Irish international to consider a move away from Eastlands, something that could be made even more plausible when you add in the reported bust ups within the team and with a manager on the verge of the sack. Arsene Wenger would dearly love to snare the midfielder but would he really offer Kolo as part of such a deal? Toure is a fantastic player who has served Arsenal manfully since his arrival at the club almost seven years ago. If the Gunners have the money then I’m sure that the fans would rather such a move was a straight cash deal but that would depend of course on how much Arsene has been given to spend? Do Emirates supporters think that Stephen Ireland has what it takes to be a success at the club?
