These two players are apparently getting closer to big money moves to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham Hotspur have made a revised bid of £12m for Stewart Downing which the Spurs’ manager Harry Redknapp described yesterday as a “fantastic offer”. (The Independent)
Tottenham have increased their offer to around £9m for the Wales international but Manchester City‘s spending power could still turn the deal their way. Bellamy is keen on Spurs despite the prospect of linking up with Mark Hughes again but will wait to see who matches West Ham‘s valuation and then the wages on offer may play a part. (Daily Mail)
I have to say I am quite surprised to see Harry Redknapp really push for these two players, both of whom seem ludicrously over valued by their respective clubs and both of whom often flatter to deceive. The capture of Jermain Defoe is apparently already in the bag but will the north London club really fork out huge sums for a Welsh international striker who may well be in good form but is still 29 years old and hasn’t been prolific in front of goal in a couple of years or indeed is a bid for Downing a wise one either? The England international has consistently been linked with a BIG move but is there perhaps a reason that he is still at the Riverside? Could that reason be that he isn’t really all that good? Are Tottenham fans in any way excited about either of these potential signings?
