Premier League turns a blind eye to the economic crisis: Who said anything about a credit crunch!

The economic world as we know it is crumbling right before our very eyes, but that hasn’t stopped the Premier League from thumbing their nose to the rest of us by spending more money in this year’s January transfer window that they did last year!

Premier League football clubs have already spent more in this year’s January transfer window than they did last year, according to analysis by accountants KPMG.

KPMG take the spending as a sign that English football clubs have yet to be fully impacted by the global economic downturn – thanks largely to the lucrative broadcasting deals that the clubs enjoy and an influx of resources from overseas investors. (SportBusiness.com)

Whether the EPL is immune to the crisis or not, the outlandish spending looks worse in a tough time where everyone is having a hell of a time just getting by. Regardless, it’s good to know someone is out there still blowing cash on Craig Bellamy and Shay Given.

What do you make of the spending in the Premier League? Did it make you sick years ago, or has this recent news just taken it to a whole different level?
