Roque Santa Cruz could well be going down with the Blackburn ship this season, but he wants those of you who thought he was would jump ship to Manchester City to know that he’s a loyal member of the club.
“It was always going to be in Blackburn’s hands, not mine, and best for them to deal with the situation,” said Santa Cruz. “That’s how it should be when you sign a contract at a club and make a commitment to do your best every day.
“Of course I am happy here. I never really felt this is something I needed to do [move away]. I love to play football with my friends and want to win a lot more games with Blackburn. They have given me a family and I will always be very thankful to the club for that. (The Guardian)
Santa Cruz has been fairly loyal while Blackburn has stuttered recently. Whilst it probably has a lot to do with his brother being at the club, Santa Cruz has been a casual observer during the talks between the two clubs. There’s still a good chance that he’ll leave this summer, but for now I’d agree that he had nothing to do with pushing a move to the Eastlands.
What do Blackburn supporters make of the situation? Do you think Santa Cruz wanted a move away from the club?
