Tottenham line up £10 million goalkeeper: A long-term answer to problem position?

While Carlo Cudicini is generally regarded as a top-class keeper, time isn’t on the Italian’s side at the age of 35. Tottenham supporters will be glad that Harry Redknapp moved quickly to replace the erratic Heurelho Gomes, although it appears as though Spurs are looking to bring in some fresh talent this summer.

That’s if the Daily Mail are to be believed, who claim that the north London club are leading the chase for Manchester City’s Joe Hart. Although the youngster has been selected for the latest England squad to face Spain on Wednesday, Fabio Capello is not going to continue picking the 21-year-old if he fails to get regular first-team football at Eastlands.

The 21-year-old, who made his England debut against Trinidad in June, believes he needs regular first-team football to have a chance of going to next year’s World Cup, something Hughes did not guarantee at their meeting.

Even 32-year-old Given admits he felt ‘awkward’ meeting Hart as he was about to take his place, while England manager Fabio Capello has conceded the situation is ‘a problem’ for the young goalkeeper.

The Daily Mail aren’t the most reliable of sources, and it’s pretty illogical that Hart will move to Tottenham and become Cudicini’s understudy rather than Given’s at Manchester City. It appears as though Heurelho Gomes will be moving on in the summer, would Spurs supporters like to see this rookie keeper signed by Harry Redknapp?
