It appears that Roman Abramovich was unsurprisingly behind the decision to sack Phil Scolari on Monday afternoon, with speculation now gathering pace as to who should replace the Brazilian at Stamford Bridge. Clearly the sacking came as a shock to several of the Chelsea players, one of who has told the press that the manager deserved more time at the helm.
As reported by Sky Sports, Deco (no surprises there then) is clearly a bit gutted that his former international and club manager has been given the boot. The midfielder has had an indifferent first season for Chelsea since being signed by Scolari, and Big Phil’s departure means that his stay in west London might be a short-lived one.
“Scolari is a good coach and he should have been given more time to get the project right,” he told the Daily Star.
“I was shocked when I heard the news, I almost could not believe it. The reason I came to Chelsea was to play for Scolari.
“He explained the ambitious project they had here and I decided to sign and rejected a lot of other offers.”
Unfortunately, time is not something that any Chelsea manager is allowed these days if the results aren’t up to scratch. The new appointment will be all too aware that a few bad results will mean he’ll come under pressure, do you think that’s a healthy state of affairs? Abramovich has clearly shown that he’s prepared to be ruthless with any big name appointment, are supporters fearful that the best candidates will avoid sipping from the poisoned chalice?
