He might not be the best option out there, but with Robbie Keane back at Tottenham, Fernando Torres playing loads of minutes, and Steven Gerrard on the mend, this player might just come in handy late in the season as a backup option. Plus, he’s willing to cut his loan deal short to help the club out!
Andriy Voronin has proven a success in the German capital, with Hertha currently third in the Bundesliga just two points behind surprise leaders Hoffenheim. But with Keane having departed last week and Benitez unable to bring in a replacement, Voronin has suggested he is willing to cut short his season-long loan and bolster Liverpool’s attacking options.
“There have not been any talks between (Hertha general manager) Dieter Hoeness, my agent and me,” said the 29-year-old. “We want to have talks with Berlin quickly, although I know my agent has been talking to Liverpool recently.
“I still have a contract there. And now Keane has been sold. Before he came last summer I was playing regularly under Rafael Benitez.
“They have a shortage of strikers now. I would enjoy staying at Hertha but, if I am not to stay on, I will give my very best until the very end.” (Liverpool Echo)
With N’Gog, Babel and Kuyt all offering up their services to help Torres out late in the season, it doesn’t appear that Liverpool need Voronin’s services at this point. The club only has the Champions League and the League to worry about at this point. Whilst it would be easy to push a Voronin move aside at this late point, maybe he could prove to be added security in the event something happened to one of the club’s other strike options.
What do supporters think? Would you want Voronin back at the club for the late season push?
