It’s not every day that a club gets high praise from Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez (just ask Sir Alex Ferguson). The goateed-one is heaping the praise on a certain club for their fantastic play of late. He likes the club so much that he’s claiming they’re good enough to make the title push a three-horse race.
Aston Villa have been the surprise package so far this season and Benitez admits Martin O’Neill’s men could be involved in the chase for the Premier League crown.
“Aston Villa are in a good position,” said Benitez. “I think it’s too soon to say it’s a two-horse race. We have to keep going and then maybe at the end it could be down to two teams.
“I’m not surprised Villa are doing well because they have good players. They are working really hard and are in a good position, and that makes motivation for each game easier. (Sky Sports)
Forget Chelsea, and don’t worry about Arsenal; Aston Villa is the club to be reckoned with in Benitez’s eyes. Villa are currently five points behind Manchester United in third place, and for the last couple of games they’ve been able to continue the success without the services of winger Ashley Young.
So what do you make of Aston Villa? Are they a legitimate title contender? Do you expect them to at least finish in the top four?
