Rumours of Fernando Torres moving abroad this summer appear to be nothing more than general paper talk after the Spaniard himself spoke yesterday about his future at Liverpool.
The striker, who is preparing to face England in Wednesday night’s friendly in Seville, insists he is happy at Anfield and not considering a move away from Merseyside.
“I don’t see myself playing for Real Madrid, or Barcelona or Chelsea or any other team,” he said.
“I see myself playing for Liverpool. I have a long contract and that’s that.” (Setanta)
Nobody should be surprised to hear Torres squash the talk. Since his arrival at Liverpool, El Nino has gushed over his on the pitch relationship with captain Steven Gerrard, as well as his close bond with Benitez and the other Spanish born players. At the point you’d be hard pressed to see Liverpool’s most prolific player leave this summer. But with Eto’o leaving, and Henry moving up in age, supporters will have to consider these kinds of rumours commonplace, especially when you have a player of Torres’ caliber.
