Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher ARE Liverpool. Plain and simple. In a footballing world where local lads are far and few, both players stand out as a beacon of hope for Merseyside, as well as other local players still chasing the dream of playing for their local club.
As it goes, many would agree that while they are local, the talent that Gerrard possess is unmatched. However, that’s not what Everton’s David Moyes thinks. He believes he has his own Carra and Stevie G playing in his starting XI!
And Hibbert and Osman are as important for Everton as Gerrard and Carragher for Liverpool, the manager has said.
“I think he has risen to the challenge,” Moyes told the club’s official website. “Hibbo has been one of the ones who has been with us all the way. There is competition and he knows that.
“He is having to keep stepping up to the mark, so does Leon Osman. But those two boys, for me, are part of the brickwork here.”
He added: “They are our equivalent of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, if you want to put it that way. They are local boys and know what is required. (Setanta)
Whew! Comparing Hibbert and Osman to two Liverpool legends might be taking it a bit far. But you have to hand it to Moyes, he sure knows how to stick up for his players and rile up the Red half of Merseyside at the same time! Regardless, I think Everton’s boss should wait until both lads win some silverware for the club before he makes that comparison.
What do Liverpool supporters think of his comments?
