Manchester United manager reveals this season’s priority: And it’s not levelling Liverpool’s league record!

That’s right, Sir Alex Ferguson is all about beating Tottenham in the Carling Cup final this season. Only joking! While the prospect of drawing level with Liverpool’s eighteen league titles must be an enticing thought for the Manchester United manager, there’s one competition which he values as more important than life itself.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Fergie is in a hungry mood and, after devouring a BLT sandwich, the Scot has gone on to claim that the Champions League is the priority for the Red Devils this term. He’s pretty keen on his team becoming the first to retain the trophy since the new format kicked in. Never mind that pesky Liverpool record, that’s in the bag anyway!

When asked what is his number one priority, the Scot replied: “The European Cup.

“There is an opportunity to draw level with Liverpool, but that is not my priority.

“You look at our record in Europe and it should have been better.

“Nobody has successfully defended the Champions League. That is a great challenge to us. Hopefully, we can do it again.”

Manchester United are current second favourites for the Champions League behind Barcelona, and they are surely the team that Fergie wants to avoid, providing they get past Inter. What do Liverpool supporters make of the above quote? After all, if the Reds win the title, they will go two clear of their arch-rivals. Perhaps the champions will take their eye off the league in their quest for back-to-back European titles, or is that just wishful thinking?
