Will this former Liverpool transfer target be on the market again this summer? His team-mate is hoping that he comes to his senses!

It’s Champions League football or bust. That’s what this midfielder is once again implying with silence. And whilst he might still sign a new contract with the club, one of his team-mates isn’t taking any chances. He’s already making it clear how important this midfielder is to their future success.

Villa team-mate, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has made a plea to Gareth Barry to forget about the other clubs in the Premier League and return to Villa next season with a new contract. The striker claims he should do it for the good of the club.

Agbonlahor said: “I think Gareth ought to sign a new contract. It would show our expectations for the rest of the season and next season. I don’t really like commenting on him but it would mean a lot, especially for the young lads because he’s been here so long.

“I’d like him to stay at the club but obviously it’s his choice what he does. If he stays and Stiliyan Petrov signs his new contract, it will be good for the club.

Agbonlahor admitted: “I used to watch him a lot when I was coming through the ranks here. He’s been at Villa a long time and he hasn’t missed many games either. (ESPN Soccernet)

Barry sure did enjoy being courted last summer by Liverpool and Arsenal. His name was constantly thrown around in the news as one of the top targets on the market, and from the sounds of it, he’ll be back on the market this summer if Villa don’t secure a Champions League slot. But even if the club miss out on the top four, wouldn’t you agree that Barry owes it to everyone to stay around?

After the way he dragged Villa through the mud last summer, the midfielder should show some respect to Martin O’Neill and the ownership, right?

What do Villa supporters think? Will Barry sign a new contract at the end of the season?
