Saturday’s disheartening home draw against Manchester City threw Liverpool’s league title hopes into a full-blown tailspin. Now seven points behind Manchester United, the Anfield club may want to start setting their sights on the only other piece of silverware still on the table — the Champions League trophy.
Whilst they still might be smarting from the weekend, the squad did receive some fantastic news prior to Wednesday’s meeting with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. Will it be enough to see them take a distinct advantage back to Anfield for the second leg? Most would say so.
“Steven (Gerrard) will be in the squad. He was okay in training,” Benitez told the club’s official website.
“It was a special training session so we were not testing him 100 per cent, but he trained okay so we will see.”

Steven Gerrard, Liverpool’s best player by far this season, will be making a shock return to the club ahead of schedule. When he went out on February 4th, reports coming out said he’d most likely feature the following week after the first leg against Real Madrid. However word is, is that Gerrard has been working furiously in the background to get fit for the memorable tie between two of the best clubs in the world.
Gerrard’s contributions to the club this season have only been matched by team-mate Fernando Torres. With the captain in the starting XI, Liverpool stand a great chance of taking something positive away
