Never mind the fact that your team have just secured a 2-1 win at Hull, a result which moves Tottenham away from immediate trouble at the foot of the Premier League. Harry Redknapp was back on his favourite subject after the clash at the KC Stadium, you should know what that is by now!
Redders was fond of describing his Portsmouth team as ‘down to the bare bones’ when they were suffering a few injuries and the Spurs manager is unstoppable when it comes to the subject of fixture congestion this season. Quite how UEFA haven’t managed to re-schedule Tottenham’s second leg with Shakhtar is beyond Harry, with The Press Association reporting that he’s described the current glut of games as ‘crazy’.
“I heard people criticising when we were on TV the other night about how I rested players. But this was the all-important game, not Shakhtar away. Whoever heard of playing a game Thursday night before playing a cup final at the weekend?”
He added: “People have been in cup finals over the years – you don’t go and play Thursday night.
“You go away for two or three days to a hotel somewhere and rest and get ready for the cup.
“The whole fixture list is crazy. It’s a crazy week. Monday, Thursday, Sunday before a showpiece game against Manchester United at Wembley!”
Apparently, the Tottenham manager is going to make ‘about eleven changes’ when Spurs next line up on Thursday night, so we can be sure of a strong team that takes on Manchester United in the Carling Cup. While Redknapp has his priorities right, surely he should put a sock in it and just get on with the many fixtures that the team have. He’s not the only one after all!
