Don’t believe everything you hear.
That should be Liverpool’s motto after hearing this bit of great news that could surely help spur the club on in their pursuit of European glory and the league title.
“I am staying,” the Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez said after the match.
…”I was clear before the game that I was not thinking about resigning.”
“I need to keep working and win games for Liverpool then I will speak to the owners further down the track,” the Liverpoolmanager added. “My lawyer was talking to the owners’ advisers and there will be discussions in the future. I will try to enjoy this victory for now, not worry about negotiations. We have plenty of time; my lawyers will talk with the advisers of the owners and we will talk about it.” (The Guardian)
It’s amazing how news changes in the blink of the eye. On the eve of the biggest match of the season, Liverpool found a way to beat the rumours and talk away with a stick and defeat Real Madrid in a massive away match that could go a long way to deciding Liverpool’s fate in the Champions League. Each of the last two seasons, Liverpool has found a way to defeat an opponent that most said they had no business beating. First it was Barcelona two years ago, and last season it was Inter.
Whilst the players make it happen on the pitch, the news that Benitez is still planning on trying to work out a contract should be good news to hear. The Spanish manager has been Liverpool’s catalyst in Europe, always finding a way to make the most of any situation. Sure, he may have trouble with the league at the moment, but Liverpool supporters have to believe that he’s worth keeping for the future if the club can come to an agreement, right?
