What do Aston Villa supporters have to say about their Uefa Cup loss? The manager fielded a pathetic side!

Aston Villa supporters have to be scratching their heads after tonight’s thoroughly confusing defeat to CSKA Moscow that saw them crash out of the Uefa Cup. I’m sure they’d like to know what Martin was thinking when he chose his starting XI for tonight’s match!

With Aston Villa chasing Champions League qualification by securing a fourth place spot in the league, Martin O’Neill must have figured he needed to take a gamble to make sure his starting XI were well rested for the weekend match against Stoke City. But was it really worth throwing an Aston Villa reserve side out on the pitch for a match that could have seen the club advance to the next stage? And does Martin O’Neill have that much respect for Stoke to leave so many players at home?

The Villa manager left a grand total of eight first-team regulars at home in a controversial move that had many supporters screaming for answers. In the end the club didn’t have enough to contend with a CSKA side that was fielding its best squad. But who could blame them for falling under those conditions?

So what do you make of MON’s move to leave the first team at home? Was it the right move?
