Aston Villa ‘close to securing deal’ for this Manchester City youngster: Should Mark Hughes really allow him to leave?

Once again, Martin O’Neill is looking to buy British if this latest transfer story is to be believed. After landing Emile Heskey during the January transfer window, Aston Villa are looking to snap up a Manchester City with a supposedly bright future.

Fabio Capello has made it clear to Joe Hart that he must get regular football to stand a chance of making the England squad, and it appears that the goalkeeper has listened to his advice as he prepares for a move to Birmingham. The Daily Telegraph reports that £3 million is set to be exchanged between the two clubs, with Brad Friedel clearly coming to the end of his career at Villa Park.

The England Under-21 player’s contract at the City of Manchester Stadium expires in June and, despite excellent early season form, the arrival of Shay Given from Newcastle United in the January transfer window has seen his first team opportunities limited.

Hart believes that a move to Villa Park will greatly increase his chances of first team football and will see him join a club who will be competing in Europe next season.

Presumably Martin O’Neill will give him assurances that he can be the long-term successor to Brad Friedel at Villa Park, unless Manchester City simply don’t rate Hart and are looking to sell him quickly? The purchase of Shay Given was a clear indication that Mark Hughes doesn’t completely rate the youngster, although are Aston Villa supporters encouraged by this story?
