Liverpool striker looking forward to big matches next week: But will manager let him play?

After Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Sunderland, the Anfield outfit have seven days to prepare for one of the most important weeks in the club’s season. The supporters would dearly love to have this striker available, but will he really play a meaningful part in matches against Real Madrid and Manchester United?

The Daily Mail report that Fernando Torres is all about lining up to face the Spanish champions on Tuesday, while he’s keen to ease himself into the back pocket of Nemanja Vidic on Saturday. Quite whether Rafa the Gaffer will allow his compatriot to rush back from the latest injury is another matter, although Nando is chomping at the bit.

Torres told The Sun: ‘The injury has been giving me trouble and the recovery is taking longer than I hoped.

‘I am optimistic I will be ready for Real and if the ankle holds out, I will also be at Old Trafford.’

If being the operative word! Liverpool’s season has clearly been affected by their number nine picking up knocks left, right and centre and his only appearance at Old Trafford might be a nice comfortable seat in the stands. Do the Reds think that Torres is key to getting past Real, or can the rest of the team ably protect their slender advantage?
