Did Sir Alex really say that?
Despite the defeat however, Ferguson said he could not see many errors United’s performance.
“It’s a hard one to take as I thought we were the better team,” he said. “We have to accept that it was a bad day in terms of the goals we lost, but I cannot fault the display.
“We made some important mistakes and one or two of the players were a little short of what we expect of them.
“With that said, I would have taken a four-point lead at this stage of the season.” (Telegraph)
This must clearly be an attempt to wind up Rafa Benitez, because he can’t for one second really believe what he is saying. Man United were a poor shadow of their usual fantastic selves and there is no way in the world anyone could seriously state that Liverpool were not the better team in the match. Also i am not sure Sir Alex can state that he could not fault the club’s display when both their centre backs had a nightmare and there attack was toothless after the first 30 minutes. As a neutral this game at least keep the title race going a little longer and as a neutral i have to say that Fergie has clearly decided that the mind games are well and truly back on!
