An Englishman who finds it hard to break into the Blues set up could be looking for a summer move.
Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring the progress of Michael Mancienne with a view to making a transfer bid. The Chelsea defender’s contract expires at the end of next season and both clubs are considering attempting to lure him from Stamford Bridge in the summer with the promise of more regular football.
Mancienne, 21, is due to hold contract talks with Chelsea at the end of the season, but it is by no means certain that he will commit his future to a club he joined at the age of 12. He has been frustrated at his limited opportunities since returning from a loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers in January, but he has fared better since Guus Hiddink was appointed interim manager last month and is grateful for the faith shown in him by the Dutchman. Mancienne has looked pretty decent when on Chelsea duty and hasn’t looked out of place in the star studded line up but he may find it hard to break into the team any time soon and therefore a move away from Stamford Bridge could be a very real possiblity and i can see why the likes of Man City and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the youngster. Clearly Eastlands may be in more of a need for a centre back and especially one who equally adept playing as a right back. The £9m rated 21 year old will have to weigh up his options and consider where his future lies and it could well be the case that he looks at the queue of proven internationals in front of him at the west London club and decides to look elsewhere. Would Anfield benefit from this youngster’s prescence in the squad?
