Middlesbrough seem destined to lose a star or two this summer.
Liverpool Football Club are plotting a stunning raid on the Riverside Stadium.
It has long been reported that Rafael Benitez is a fan of England international winger Stewart Downing, and it is believed a summer offer of £12million is in the pipeline.
As if this isn’t worrying enough for Middlesbrough, reports at the weekend claim the Reds will also table an offer of £10million for defender David Wheater. (fansfc.com)
By all accounts Boro seem set to sell off some of their assets even if they avoid the drop but a fee in the region of £25m may be nearer the mark as Steve Gibson won’t let his stars go on the cheap. Stewart Downing has been trailed by Rafa for some time apparently and the Spaniard apparently sees David Wheater as a talent for the future. Personally i am not sure either player is worth the sums that have been aligned to them and also whether either represents an improvement on what is already in Benitez’s squad. Do Liverpool fans rate either player very highly?
