Let battle commence.
It promises to be one hell of a battle, and by battle i mean Newcastle will win easily in my opinion. Having seen Boro a few times this season, and most recently in their last two matches where they looked so poor they deserved a double relegation, i have to say that i am shocked that Gareth Southgate still has a job.
Yes it’s true that both teams have performed horribly this term they have appeared to do so in two distinctly unique ways. The St James’ Park outfit has a squad chock a block with players who are actually pretty decent or were at least pretty decent at some points in their career. The players i am specifically referring to are as follows. Nolan (excellent at Bolton), Owen (excellent at Liverpool), Duff (excellent at Blackburn), Geremi (excellent at Chelsea), Viduka (excellent at Leeds), Butt (excellent at times at Man United) do you see a pattern developing here. As a side though they have no cohesion and added to this the way their season has been ruined by the actions of that fat man by the name of Mike Ashley, and you have a team that really has hit the self-destruct button with a great deal of zeal.
Then you have Boro, a team that is NOT chock a block with players who actually pretty decent. A team who when you watch them make you wonder if you are actually watching a Premier League football club. Add to that Gareth Southgate’s inability to make a good signing (Tuncay and Woodgate being the exceptions) and an over reliance on youth and you have a team that will almost certainly be relegated and will almost certainly in my view, not bounce back at the first time of asking unless they sack their boss.
So back to tonight’s game. Many have built it up as a fight for Premier League survival (even me in this article’s headline) but it should be noted that victory for either side still doesn’t guarantee staying up and that both clubs will probably still need a point or two from their final games to be sure of safety. So we see the team with the second worst away record in the division take on the team with the second worst home record in the Premier League.
My money is on a Toon Army win and a convincing one at that. What do others thing will happen in tonight’s game?
