Arsenal Linked with Move for £5m Stoke Midfielder

The all new rumour reporting article system is in full effect!

The Rumour

Wenger has been written up as tempted by Stoke City defender and Premiership veteran Abdoulaye Faye. Some no-nonsense defending in the Stoke style may add some steel to Arsenal’s silk and £5m would seal the deal.

The Analysis

I think someone has put one and one together and got three with this one. Yes Arsenal need some steel in the centre of midfield and yes they probably need a centre back as well, and whilst Faye can do a decent job in both instances he will not be the kind of player that Arsene Wenger is going to make a move for.

For one at 31 he is clearly heading into the Autumn of his career and whilst he has been heroic at Stoke City he isn’t going to be a player that the Gunners would turn to as the club looks to rebuild a team looking for silverware next season. Secondly there is of course the age old issue relating to the fact that Wenger doesn’t give long term contracts to players over the age of 30 and therefore it’s unlikely that a move for the veteran would happen.

Lastly the former Bolton and Newcastle man isn’t good enough for a top four club and is probably very happy with the way things are going at the Britannia Stadium anyway.

The Likelihood

Faye to Arsenal: Never in a million years.
