The rumour reporting article system is now firing on all cylinders!
Xabi Alonso’s future continues to be a source of much speculation, and it is thought that Benitez is looking to Martinez to replace Alonso should, Real Madrid take steps to tempt him to the Bernabeu.

I think it’s time Rafa came out and made it clear how important Xabi is to the side, no doubt he may have stated this in private conversations between the two but perhaps it would be helpful to dispel the rumours surrounding the Liverpool midfielder if he just came out and said “I am not interested in any other midfielder, especially not Gareth Barry” then perhaps we can save the Anfield fans from another summer of pain!
It was good to see the Spanish international smiling on the pitch yesterday after he launched a rasper high into the stands and i am sure the boss would have been happy with the way he rushed between the arguing Carragher and Arbeloa and tried to get the pair to calm down. Clearly Xabi is a player who loves the club and after near on five years at the club it is clear the fans also have a huge amount of respect for him.
Would he be tempted by a move to Real Madrid, well that’s a good question. If you were talking about a rejuvenated Bernabeu outfit who are firing on all cylinders and capable of winning the Champions League as well as their domestic title then perhaps it would turn the Spaniards head, but that isn’t the case. The La Liga giants are very much in a transitionary period. It isn’t clear a) whether Juande Ramos will still be in the job next season b) who will be the club’s president, although Florentino Perez seems favourite for the post right now and c) it’s worth noting that the backbone of the team is rapidly aging with the likes of Raul, Cannavaro, Van Nistelrooy, Guti and Heinze all over 30 and with recent signings such as Dutch trio Sneijder, Van der Vaart and Huntelaar seemingly not to happy with life at the club.
Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid: I think Rafa will see sense and give up on Barry!
