Adam Johnson has rejected a new contract offer from Middlesbrough.
The Daily Mail says Johnson, 20, has attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid plus Liverpool and wants to stay in top flight football.

Adam Johnson is a fine prospect and a far more worthy player to pursue than the hugely overrated Stewart Downing. The 21 year old Sunderland born winger has in many ways been held back from a more prominent role at Boro but Johnson is an entirely different customer in that he can quite regularly beat a man for pace and is able to use both his legs as opposed to the ludicrously one footed Downing.
A number of Riverside players are bound to be looking for an exit from the Championship bound side and i think fleet footed Johnson would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad. He can play on both wings but is young enough to be used primarily as a back up to Riera and Kuyt at first but shows enough in the way of potential to be well worth the £9.5m valuation placed on his shoulders.
Johnson to Liverpool: A move Benitez may well go for as he looks to inject more British talent in lieu of the homegrown player ruling soon to be in operation.
